About Us
Founded in 2021 by Will Harris and James Horrocks, Balance is the only brewery in Manchester specialising in wild ales. These complex beers are fermented with our house culture and are aged in oak wine barrels.
These beers take time; each one spending around a year, or sometimes more, in barrel before being blended onto dry hops, fruit and foraged ingredients, all sourced from the UK. Our ever-evolving house culture of wild yeasts and bacteria brings complexity, nuance and balance to our beers.
We place real focus on using British ingredients from our malt and hops to our fruit and foraged ingredients. We source these directly from the producers themselves, work with local cooperative wholesalers and where we can, go out and pick these ourselves! We've foraged everything from plums and damsons to samphire, elderflower and mugwort!
In 2023 we ventured into cider making for the first time. Getting apple juice fresh from the press in Somerset, each year since we have spontaneously fermented and then barrel aged our ciders to create dry, funky and complex ciders.
